iOS users in Europe will be able to download Fortnite on their iOS devices later this year, after Apple was forced to allow third-party app stores outside the App Store. But it bears repeating that this good news only applies to those living in the European Union.

For those who don't know about the ongoing App Store war between Epic Games and Apple: Epic wanted to overcome Google and Apple's 30 percent commission on micro-transactions by adding its own payment system to the app. In return, Apple removed Fortnite from iOS in 2020.

Now, 4 years later, Epic Games has finally decided to make some progress. According to Epic's announcement on X, Fortnite will be released on iOS, but not through its own app store.

It is currently unclear when exactly Fortnite will be released on iOS. After the company's small victory, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney took to Twitter to criticize Epic's policy, which Apple has had for decades.

With Apple introducing the ability to install apps from a non-iOS source, many companies like Epic Games that have criticized Apple's cuts to the App Store will be able to bring their iOS and iPadOS apps to Apple devices through a separate app store.

Time will tell if Fortnite will be available in the US and elsewhere as Apple continues to fight to prevent developers from publishing apps outside of its own apps and app stores.
